23 Things Assignment #8

Wow!

I can't believe I made it this far. Youtube is a personal favourite of mine. I'm constantly on youtube looking up music videos for the most part. But it is a great tool for amateur film makers, voyeurs, and publicity as well. The Toronto Public library should definitely launch/create a youtube video for our various campaigns throughout the year i.e. Keep Toronto Reading month, or film the special talks and events we have at TRL to promote future events. The possibilities are endless!

Cheers,

Nina

Podcast!

I'm very excited to view my recently added podcast:

Grammar Girls
Money Girls
Brain Food
Learn French

Podcast are great... I think... I haven't really viewed/listened to any yet, but the summaries were handy. I also question how reliable the information is. There are many amateur-experts out there, so it would be important to verify the source. As an information specialist I think there is great potential for librarians to use our expertise to create, post and select reliable podcasts for the public.

Nina

23 Things Assignment #6

Google Docs!

It's a great tool for collaborative work, and I'm definitely glad I opened an account for future projects. I would definitely recommend the resource to high school and post-secondary school students. But I find the tool limiting - for individual work, and I feel uneasy relying on a web tool to store important documents.

As for using this tool in TPL I think it would be great committee work. If there is a project that a committee is working on, all members will have access to the work through google docs and can easily contribute at anytime, anywhere.

Cheers,
Nina

'Delicious' us very yummy...

It's such a great idea... to tag your favourite websites with subject headings and to view other website personally selected by a community of users. I had lots of fun tagging my favs and will be using this tool regularly, at home and at work.

you can find me in delicious under the user name 'nina.nguyen'

23 Things Assignment #3

Top 3 RSS Feeds (So far):

1. NYT Sunday Book Review
2. Ascent Magazine Blog (Canadian Yoga journal)
3. Book Blog

I'm not quite sure if Bloglines will save me time. I might end up spending more time than usual online sifting through the feeds, but it will definitely help me organize the time I do spend on the net.

I enjoyed looking for new feeds and subscribing to them. Discovering a new toy online is always fun, but once the novelty wears off, I'm not quite sure if I will use the tool regularly. Only time will tell.
